Nino Torres, Carlos (Doctoral Degree in Marine Sciences and Limnology, National Autonomous University of Mexico )
With over 20 years of experience as a marine biologist and conservation scientist,
Dr. Carlos Ni帽o-Torres has dedicated his career to studying and protecting marine
megafauna (marine mammals, elasmobranchs, and aquatic reptiles). His expertise centers
especially on the biological and ecological aspects of marine mammal populations,
employing a multidisciplinary approach that includes field research, laboratory analysis,
and university instruction. In the field, Dr. Ni帽o-Torres has gained extensive hands-on
experience conducting population surveys, photo-identification studies, and behavioral
observations of diverse marine megafauna species across North and South America. Utilizing
techniques such as biopsy sampling and photographic documentation, he has assessed
population demographics, habitat utilization patterns, and identified threats impacting
these species.
Within laboratory settings, Dr. Ni帽o-Torres employs advanced analytical methods, including
stable isotope analysis, gas chromatography, and atomic absorption spectroscopy to
explore marine megafauna trophic ecology and evaluate environmental contaminant levels.
His research provides crucial insights into the conservation challenges faced by marine
megafauna. In addition to his research endeavors, Dr. Ni帽o-Torres is passionate about
education. He has taught undergraduate and graduate courses in marine biology, mammalogy,
and conservation for over a decade, employing engaging pedagogical approaches to foster
student growth and understanding.
Dr. Ni帽o-Torres holds a Doctorate in Marine Sciences and Limnology from the National
University of Mexico (UNAM) and has authored numerous peer-reviewed publications,
contributing significantly to the field of marine biology.
