
Gerg, Ian (PhD)
Ian Gerg holds a PhD in Music Theory from the University of Texas at Austin, where he was a Kent Kennan Fellow. Prior to arriving at FGCU, Dr. Gerg held faculty positions at institutions in Philadelphia and Oklahoma, and he served as a band director in Austin. His research explores intersections of narratology, agency, subjectivity, and semiotics in instrumental music of the 19th century. He has presented papers at regional, national, and international conferences, and his writing is found in Semiotics, Notes, and Musical Waves. Most recently, he published an online educational tool, Fundamentals of Pitch and Harmony, with Credly by Pearson.
