Olowoyo, Joshua

Joshua Olowoyo is currently an Associate Professor of Environmental Health and Program Director, Health Sciences in the Department of Health Sciences, Florida Gulf Coast University. Joshua Olowoyo is also a Joint Faculty at The Water School of FGCU. Dr Olowoyo received a Doctoral degree with a specialization in Environmental Science from the University of Limpopo, Pretoria, South Africa in 2008. His current research activity is on the impacts of pollutants on human health. Before joining Florida Gulf Coast University in 2022, Dr Olowoyo worked at Sefako Makgatho Health Sciences University, Pretoria, South Africa for seventeen years. While in South Africa, Dr Olowoyo was recognized by the National Research Foundation, one of the main funding agencies of the country as an Established Researcher with a C2 rating. He has published more than 90 peer-reviewed articles. He is currently serving as an Academic Editor for two journals and a reviewer for numerous journals. He has successfully supervised 6 doctoral candidates and 16 master’s degree students. He is interested in understanding the roles heavy metals play in the development of cancer. As a teacher and a lover of the environment, he is interested in teaching the young ones the consequences of ignoring or mismanaging the environment and the impact on their health. He is also interested in elucidating the relationship between different pollutants and their roles in managing noncommunicable diseases which are often overlooked. This he is doing through research activities.
