Education Abroad Providers are organizations outside the auspices of FGCU that facilitate independent study abroad experiences for students.

This page contains information about education abroad providers and the process/forms needed for receiving academic credit.

Whether you are interested in receiving academic credit, pursuing an internship, or service-learning hours abroad, you must meet with a Study Abroad Advisor.

Students should send an email to studyabroad@fgcu.edu to acquire access to the FGCU Education Abroad Canvas Page. This Canvas course contains important information that you will need before you apply for your program and before you depart for your final destination. Students must review the short Education Abroad 101 Tutorial before they arrive for their study abroad advisor appointment.

Once you have decided that you are ready to commit to a study abroad program, you will need to complete the Study Abroad Approval form.

If you intend to receive academic credit with your study abroad program, you will need to complete the following forms:

1. The Assumption of Risk Waiver

2. The Course Pre-Approval Form

You must have all courses pre-approved before you depart to have your academic credit articulated. Both forms must be submitted via email to the Study Abroad Office.

The Study Abroad Financial Aid Consortium form must be completed if you meet one of these criteria:
- If you intend to apply eligible financial aid to your program.
- If you received a foundation award such as the Perez or Global Learning Award.
- If you are receiving any funding that will be applied to your student account to pay for your study abroad.
Turning in the Study Abroad Financial Aid Consortium Form:
- The Consortium form must be signed by you and your advisor.
- Make sure that the courses listed are also listed on your Course Pre Approval Form.
- Students must include a copy of the signed Course Pre Approval Form along with the Consortium Form and provide both forms to the FGCU Financial Aid Office.

All Students pursuing a study abroad program must attend a pre-departure meeting before their departure date.

Notifications regarding the mandatory pre-departure meeting is sent to each student via email AFTER they have met with a study abroad advisor.

Education Abroad Program Providers

Education Abroad Providers facilitate student enrollment in universities abroad and often offer wraparound services on-site to ensure students are supported throughout all stages of their time abroad. Since each provider is different, students are encouraged to review programs closely and consider their own goals for their time abroad. It may be helpful to consult with a study abroad advisor prior to making a decision on which education abroad provider or program to pursue.

If a student wishes to pursue a program through an education abroad provider not listed below, they MUST also consult an FGCU study abroad advisor.

Additional Education Abroad Experiences

Partner University Exchange Programs

Exchange programs allow degree-seeking students to pay FGCU tuition and study at a foreign institution. Students earn direct FGCU academic credit for courses taken abroad through exchange. Admission is highly competitive due to limited slots and may only be open to students with advanced standing in a designated college or degree program.

In order to apply, students must first be nominated for an exchange slot by the FGCU Study Abroad Office. Deadlines to apply for nomination are March 1st and September 20th.

International Internships

Internships provide students with practical work experience that will overall enhance their personal and professional development. Interns will have hands-on experience abroad that will impact their future career. International internships may be pursued independently or for academic credit but are typically not paid.

International internships are offered by organizations that specialize in internships as well as education abroad provider organizations where they may be combined with a semester or summer study abroad.
